     Lt.-Col. Frederick Skipwith was born on 23 December 1877.1 He was the son of Colonel Grey Townsend Skipwith and Elizabeth Helen Wemyss.2 He married Lily Spence Garvie, daughter of Lt.-Col. John Garvie, on 7 May 1916.1 He died on 17 April 1964 at age 86.1
     He was educated at Haileybury College, Haileybury, Hertfordshire, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Boxer Rebellion in 1900.1 He fought in the Tibet Mission in 1904.1 He fought in the Zakka Khel Expedition in 1908.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in dispatches.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Gurkha Rifles.1

     Lily Spence Garvie was the daughter of Lt.-Col. John Garvie.2 She married Lt.-Col. Frederick Skipwith, son of Colonel Grey Townsend Skipwith and Elizabeth Helen Wemyss, on 7 May 1916.1 She died in 1979.1
     From 7 May 1916, her married name became Skipwith.
