     Sir William Reardon Smith, 1st Bt. was born on 7 August 1856.1 He was the son of Thomas Reardon Smith and Elizabeth Green.2 He married Ellen Hamlyn, daughter of Thomas Pickard Hamlyn, on 16 May 1880.1 He died on 23 December 1935 at age 79.1
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Glamorgan.1 He was a shipowner.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Glamorgan.1 He was created 1st Baronet Smith, of Appledore, co. Devon [U.K.] on 1 July 1920.1
