     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Glamorgan.¹ He was a shipowner.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Glamorgan.¹ He was created 1st Baronet Smith, of Appledore, co. Devon [U.K.] on 1 July 1920.¹
