He was educated at Stonyhurst College, Blackburn, Lancashire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Engineers.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1942 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1943 with a Bachelor of Engineering (B.A.I.)1 He gained the title of Count O'Kelly [H.R.E.] in 1946.
