Colonel Richard John Strachey was born on 19 May 1861.1 He was the son of Sir Richard Strachey and Jane Maria Grant.2 He married Grace Alice Norman, daughter of Field Marshal Sir Henry Wylie Norman and Alice Claudine Sandys, on 30 December 1896.1 He died on 23 October 1935 at age 74.1
He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1918.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Rifle Brigade.1
