     Arthur John Layard was born on 18 July 1819.1 He was the son of Henry Peter John Layard and Marianne Austen.1 He died on 7 August 1855 at age 36 at Balaclava, Russia, killed in action.1
     He fought in the Crimean War.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 38th Regiment.1

     Edgar Leopold Layard was born on 23 July 1824 at Florence, Italy.1 He was the son of Henry Peter John Layard and Marianne Austen.1 He married, firstly, Barbara Anne Calthrop, daughter of Reverend John Calthrop, on 18 October 1848.1 He married, secondly, Jane Catherine Blackhall, daughter of General Robert Blackhall, in 1887.1 He died on 1 January 1900 at age 75.1
     He was with H.M. Ceylon Civil Service.1 He was Private Secretary to the Governor of the Cape of Good Hope.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1874.1 He was Administrator of Fiji Islands Government between 1874 and 1875.1 He was H.B.M. Consul to Noumea, New Caledonia between 1876 and 1890.1 He was founder and curator of the South African Museum.1 He lived at Otterbourne, Budleigh Salterton, Devon, England.1

Barbara Anne Calthrop1

     Barbara Anne Calthrop was the daughter of Reverend John Calthrop.1 She married Edgar Leopold Layard, son of Henry Peter John Layard and Marianne Austen, on 18 October 1848.1 She died on 14 June 1886.1
     From 18 October 1848, her married name became Layard.1

     Jane Catherine Blackhall was the daughter of General Robert Blackhall.1 She married, firstly, James Augustus Graham, son of Robert Fuller Graham and Harriet Jordon, on 9 April 1860.1,2 She married, secondly, Edgar Leopold Layard, son of Henry Peter John Layard and Marianne Austen, in 1887.1 She died in 1910.1
     From 9 April 1860, her married name became Graham.1 From 1887, her married name became Layard.1
