     Alastair Mansfield Smith-Cumming was born circa 1890.2 He was the son of Sir Mansfield George Smith-Cumming and Leslie Marian Cumming.1 He died on 3 October 1914 at France, killed driving his father's Rolls-Royce (his father lost a lower leg in the same accident).1
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders.2 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.2
