     James Innes-Ker, 5th Duke of Roxburghe was born on 10 January 1736.1 He was the son of Sir Henry Innes of that Ilk, 5th Bt. and Anne Drummouda Grant.3 He married, firstly, Mary Wray, daughter of Sir John Wray, 12th Bt. and Frances Norcliffe, on 19 April 1769.1 He married, secondly, Harriet Charlewood, daughter of Benjamin Charlewood, on 28 July 1807.1 He died on 19 July 1823 at age 87.2
     He was given the name of James Innes at birth.1 He was educated at Leyden University, Leyden, The NetherlandsG.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1759 in the 88th Foot.1 He succeeded as the 6th Baronet Innes [N.S., 1625] on 31 October 1762.4 He sold Innes estate in 1767 to James Duff, 2nd Earl Fife.1 On 31 May 1769 his name was legally changed to James Innes-Norcliffe by Royal Licence.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1779 in the 58th Foot.1 His name was legally changed to James Innes-Ker.1 He succeeded as the 5th Viscount of Broxmouth [S., 1707] on 22 October 1805.4 He succeeded as the 5th Marquess of Bowmont and Cessford [S., 1707] on 22 October 1805.4 He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Kelso [S., 1707] on 22 October 1805.4 He succeeded as the 5th Duke of Roxburghe [S., 1707] on 22 October 1805.4 He succeeded as the 9th Lord Ker of Cessford and Caverton [S., 1616] on 22 October 1805.1 He succeeded as the 9th Lord Roxburghe [S., 1600] on 22 October 1805.1 He succeeded as the 5th Lord Ker of Cessford and Caverton [S., 1707] on 22 October 1805.4 He succeeded as the 9th Earl of Roxburghe [S., 1616] on 22 October 1805.1 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1818 and 1820.1
