     Major Francis George Mann was born on 6 September 1917.1 He was the son of Francis Thomas Mann and Enid Agnes Tilney.2 He married Margaret Hildegarde Clark, daughter of William Marshall Clark, on 1 December 1949.1 He died on 8 August 2001 at age 83.1
     Major Francis George Mann usually went by his middle name of George.1 He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 Between 1937 and 1954 he played cricket for Middlesex.1 Between 1938 and 1939 he played cricket for Cambridge.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was wounded.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Scots Guards.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1945.1 Between 1948 and 1949 he played 7 cricket test matches for England as captain, against South Africa and New Zealand.1,3 He was president of the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1984.3
