     Grace Dundas Hamilton was the daughter of Reverend Dr. unknown Hamilton.2 She married John Hamilton, 14th of Fairholm and Kirkton, son of Charles Hamilton, 13th of Fairholm and Kirkton and Anne Scrivener, on 24 February 1835.1 She died on 24 June 1888.1

Lt.-Col. James Stevenson-Hamilton, 16th of Fairholm and Kirkton1

     Lt.-Col. James Stevenson-Hamilton, 16th of Fairholm and Kirkton was born on 2 October 1867.1 He was the son of Colonel James Stevenson of Braidwood and Eliza Hamilton.2 He married Hilda Cholmondeley, daughter of Richard Vernon Cholmondeley and Hilda Georgina Leyland, on 13 August 1930.1 He died on 10 December 1957 at age 90.1
     He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Zululand Campaign in 1888.1 He was admitted to the Royal Company of Archers in 1896.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902, and he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was Warden of Sabi Game Reserve, South Africa between 1902 and 1926.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1905 in the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons.1 He wrote the book Animal Life in Africa, published 1912.1 He fought in the First World War, in Gallipoli and Egypt.1 He gained the rank of Brigade-Major in 1914 in the Nottinghamshire and Derby Brigade of Yeomanry.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1916 in the Egypt Force.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.)1 He was awarded the Silver Medal of the Royal Zoological Society.1 He was Warden of Kruger National Park between 1927 and 1946.1 He wrote the book The Lowveld, its Wild Life and its People, published 1929.1 He wrote the book South African Eden, published 1937.1 He wrote the book Wild Life in South Africa, published 1947.1
