     Admiral of the Fleet John Cronyn Tovey, Baron Tovey was born on 7 March 1885.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Hamilton Tovey.1 He married Aida Rowe, daughter of John Rowe, on 28 March 1916.1 He died on 12 January 1971 at age 85, without issue.1
     He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1923.1 He was commander of the Destroyer Flotilla between 1925 and 1926.1 He gained the rank of commanding officer between 1932 and 1934 in the H.M.S Rodney.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George V in 1935.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1935.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1937.1 He was Rear-Admiral of the Destroyers, Mediterranean between 1938 and 1940.1 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1939.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Home Fleet between 1940 and 1943.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1941.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1941.1 He gained the rank of Admiral in 1942.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.) in 1943.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the the Nore between 1943 and 1946.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George VI between 1945 and 1946.1 He was created Baron Tovey, of Langton Matravers, co. Dorset [U.K.] on 11 February 1946.1

     Lt.-Col. George Strangways Tovey was born in 1875.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Hamilton Tovey.1 He married Lilian Mary Conder, daughter of Reverend Alfred Conder and Eliza Mary Roe, in 1910.1 He died on 13 January 1943.1
     He was educated at St. Paul's School, London, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1916.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1918.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Artillery.1

     Lilian Mary Conder was born in 1880.2 She was the daughter of Reverend Alfred Conder and Eliza Mary Roe.1,2 She married Lt.-Col. George Strangways Tovey, son of Lt.-Col. Hamilton Tovey, in 1910.1 She died in 1939.1
     From 1910, her married name became Tovey.1
