     Major Pierce O'Brien Butler was born circa 1839.1 He was the son of Edmund O'Brien Butler and Grace White.1 He married Marcella Hynes, daughter of James Hynes, on 13 September 1875 at Monkstown Parish Church, Monkstown, County Dublin, IrelandG.1 He died on 3 April 1912.1
     He gained the rank of Ensign in 1858 in the 3rd West India Regiment.1 He fought in the China War in 1860, with King's Royal Rifle Corps.1 He retired from the military in 1878, with the rank of Major.1
