     Thomas Ferby was born at Paul's Cray, Kent, EnglandG.2 He and Elizabeth Coningsby obtained a marriage license on 4 November 1526. He died before 24 March 1548/49.2
     Thomas Ferby occurs as a justice of the peace in an interesting letter dated 13 May 1538 (published in state papers, Domestic, etc. relating to the parish and parson of Paul's Cray. On 23 Nov. 1541 he was empanelled on a grand jury at Deptford. His will dated 26 Feb. 1547/8, was proved (Rochester) 24 March 1548/9, by Elizabeth, his widow and executrix. He desires to be buried in St. Catherine's chapel in Paul's Cray church, and leaves money for tithes forgotten. His wife is residuary legatee; he also leaves to her 'lands of 40 marks a year, being her jointure according to my writing to her thereof made', with remainder to his sons James and Thomas. To his son James he also leaves his messuage or place called Walklyns, 'now in the occcupation of Richard Layne in Paul's Cray', and other lands there and in Bexley; L4 a year to his finding until 21; and 'L6 13s 4d of the bequest which my wife's mother gave me at her departing, if it can be gotten'. To his son Thomas he leaves his tenements called Clatons in Mayfield, Sussex and land in Foot's Cray. 'To William Sopner my servant, one tenement in Paulinscraye next to my mansion-house for life'. John Byer of Dartford is overseer; Thomas Stabull, John Bagthwagh, Richard Lane, John Hayl, George Smythe are witnesses.
((Note: Sir William Coningsby knt. (d. 154?) of co. Norfolk, Justice of the King's Bench was the second son of Sir Humphrey Coningsby (will dated 2 Jun., proved 26 Nov.1535), William was knighted in 1509 . He married Beatrix daughter of Thomas Thoresby (Thursby) (d. by 1548) of co. Norfolk by Elizabeth daughter of John and Margaret Burgoyne of Impington Cambs . Thomas was son of Thomas Thoresby a wealthy merchant and mayor of King's Lynn and founder of Thoresby College there in 1510.2
