     Colonel Alexander Fairlie Dobbs was born on 1 November 1839.2 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Richard Stewart Dobbs and Jane Margaret Cathcart.2 He married Marianne Gage, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Ezekiel Gage and Maria Dobbs, in 1871.1 He died on 27 April 1912 at age 72.2
     He gained the rank of officer in the 60th Rifles.2 He gained the rank of officer in the 23rd Madras Staff Infantry.1 He was Judicial Superintendent Railways on the Great India Peninsula and Nizam's Railways.2 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Madras Staff Corps.2 He lived at Fernwood, Coonoor, IndiaG.2

     Catherine Gage was born on 6 November 1854.1 She was the daughter of Maj.-Gen. Ezekiel Gage and Maria Dobbs.2 She married Colonel Alexander Sinclair Grove, son of Major Henry Jones Grove and Mary Anne Sinclair, on 3 September 1873.1 She died on 18 July 1918 at age 63.2
     Catherine Gage also went by the nick-name of Kitty.2 From 3 September 1873, her married name became Grove.

     He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)3 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Madras Staff Corps.1
