     Major William Stephen Brownlow was born on 9 October 1921 at Portaferry, County Down, Ireland.1,2 He was the son of Colonel Guy James Brownlow and Elinor Hope Georgina Scott.3 He married Eveleigh Finola Margaret Panter, daughter of Lt.-Col. George William Panter, on 11 January 1961.1 He died in May 1998 at age 76.2
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches and was wounded.1 He retired from the military in 1954, with the rank of Major, late of the The Rifle Brigade.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Down in 1956.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Down in 1959.1 He held the office of Member of the Legislative Assembly (M.L.A.)
