     William Westropp Brereton was born on 16 December 1808.1 He was the son of Arthur Brereton and Eliza Westropp.2 He married Geraldine Mary Kean, daughter of Robert Kean and Elizabeth Crofts, in 1838.1 He died on 13 December 1867 at age 58.1
     He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, EnglandG.1 He was admitted to King's Inn in 1836 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG, in 1836 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG, in 1856 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He held the office of Chairman of the Galway Quarter Sessions between 1858 and 1867.1 He lived at Carrigslaney, County Carlow, IrelandG.1 He lived at Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1

     He was admitted to King's Inns in 1861.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG, in 1862 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 81st Regiment.1 He lived at Ladywell, County Westmeath, IrelandG.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Westmeath.1 He sold Carrigslaney, sold under the terms of the Irish land Commission in 1924 at Carrigslaney, County Carlow, IrelandG.1
