     Sir Robert Joshua Paul, 5th Bt. was born on 6 June 1883.² He was the son of Sir William Joshua Paul, 4th Bt. and Richenda Juliet Gurney.³ He married Eveline Alice Wanda Gorkiewicz, daughter of Count Marcel Habdank Gorkiewicz, on 10 May 1919.² He died on 9 July 1955 at age 72.⁴
     He was educated at Repton School, Repton, Derbyshire, England.² He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.² He was with the Egyptian Civil Service in 1906.² He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Paul, of Paulville, co. Carlow [I., 1764] on 19 April 1912.³ He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Flying Corps.² He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1915, in France and Egypt, where he was mentioned in dispatches and became a POW.² He was commander of Arab Gendarmerie in 1919 at Aleppo, Syria.² He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Waterrford.² He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Waterford.²
