     He lived at Chesterknowes, Selkirk, Roxburghshire, Scotland^G.¹ He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in the 5th Lancers.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.)¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)¹
