Captain John Byron was born on 7 February 1756.1 He was the son of Admiral Hon. John Byron and Sophia Trevannion.2 He married, firstly, Lady Amelia Darcy, daughter of Robert Darcy, 4th Earl of Holderness and Mary Doublet, on 1 June 1779 at London, EnglandG.1 He married, secondly, Catherine Gordon, daughter of George Gordon and Catherine Innes, on 12 May 1785.1 He died on 2 August 1791 at age 35, perhaps by suicide.1
Captain John Byron also went by the nick-name of 'Mad Jack'.1 He was educated at Westminster School, Westminster, London, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Guards.1

Lady Caroline Keppel was born on 20 August 1737.2 She was the daughter of William Anne van Keppel, 2nd Earl of Albemarle and Lady Anne Lennox.1 She married Robert Adair, son of Sir Robert Adair and Anne McAuley. She died on 11 September 1769 at age 32.2
