     Benjamin Raffles was baptised on 29 July 1739 at St. Anne, Blackfriars, London, EnglandG.2 He was the son of Thomas Raffles and Susanna (?)2 He married Anne Lyde, daughter of unknown Lyde, on 21 November 1776.2 He died in 1812.2
     He was captain of a merchant ship, and was involved in the slave trade in the Caribbean.2

     Olive Marianne Devenish was born on 17 February 1771 at India.2 She married, firstly, Jacob Cassivelaun Fancourt on 26 May 1793 at Fort St. George, Madras, India.1 She married, secondly, Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles, son of Benjamin Raffles and Anne Lyde, on 14 March 1805.1 She died on 26 November 1814 at age 43 at Bultenzorg, Jakata, Java, IndonesiaG.1
     From 26 May 1793, her married name became Fancourt.1 From 14 March 1805, her married name became Raffles.1

     He was Assistant-Surgeon at Madras, IndiaG.1 He gained the rank of assistant surgeon in 1800 in the 71st Regiment.2
