     Sir John Oliphant of Aberdalgie was the son of Sir William Oliphant of Aberdalgie and Marian de Berwick.² He married Margaret Ogilvy, daughter of Sir Patrick Ogilvy of Auchterhouse and Christian Keith.¹ He died on 23 January 1445/46 at Arbroath, Angus, Scotland^G, killed in a battle between the Lindsays and his wife's family.¹
     In 1442 he was retoured heir to grandfather.¹
