Elizabeth Kerr1

     Elizabeth Kerr was the daughter of Walter Kerr of Cessford and Agnes Crichton.1,2 She married, secondly, Sir Walter Scott, 2nd of Buccleuch, son of David Scott of Buccleuch, younger and Lady Janet Douglas.1 She married by contract, firstly, Philip Rutherfoord of that Ilk, younger, son of James Rutherfoord of that Ilk and Margaret Erskine, on 12 February 1484/85.1 She died on 19 October 1548.1
     Her married name became Scott.1 From 12 February 1484/85, her married name became Rutherford.1

     Sir Walter Scott, 3rd of Buccleuch was the son of Sir Walter Scott, 2nd of Buccleuch and Elizabeth Kerr.1 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Carmichael circa 1523.1 He married, secondly, Janet Kerr, daughter of Sir Andrew Kerr of Ferniehirst and Janet Home, circa 1530.1 He married, thirdly, Janet Bethune, daughter of Sir John Bethune, 2nd of Creich and Janet Hay, circa 1544.1 He died on 4 October 1552 at High Street, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG, killed by the Kerrs.1
     He fought in the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513.1 He was appointed Knight on 9 September 1513 on the field of the Battle of Flodden.1 On 25 July 1526 he had tried to free King James V, but was defeated by the Earl of Angus as Darnick, near Melrose.1 He fought in the Battle of Pinkie on 10 September 1547.1 He lived at Branxholm, ScotlandG.2

     Janet Bethune was born circa 1510.1 She was the daughter of Sir John Bethune, 2nd of Creich and Janet Hay.2,1 She married, firstly, Sir James Crichton circa 1538.2,1 She married, secondly, Simon Preston of Craigmillar in 1540.1 She and Simon Preston of Craigmillar were divorced before 1544.1 She married, thirdly, Sir Walter Scott, 3rd of Buccleuch, son of Sir Walter Scott, 2nd of Buccleuch and Elizabeth Kerr, circa 1544.2 She died in January 1569.2,1
     She was also known as Janet Betoun.2 From circa 1538, her married name became Crichton.2 From 1540, her married name became Preston.1 Her married name became Scott. On 26 April 1559 he was alleged to have married a Janet Betown, widow of Sir Walter Scott, of Buccleuch, but if this marriage ever took place, it was quickly dissolved.
