Uchtred Macdowall, 10th of Garthland1

     Uchtred Macdowall, 10th of Garthland was the son of John Macdowall, 9th of Garthland and Margaret Campbell.2 He married, secondly, Margaret Stewart, daughter of Henry Stewart, 1st Lord Methven.1 He married, firstly, Margaret Kennedy, daughter of Sir Hew Kennedy, 2nd of Girvan Mains and Lady Janet Stewart.1 He died in 1593 at FranceG.3
     He was involved in a feud with Lochinvar following murder of Gilbert Macdowall of Barjarg.1 On 29 February 1547/48 he had a fresh charter from King James VI of the Baronies of Garthland and Corswallas which was retoured.1 On 19 August 1584 he took part in the Raid of Ruthven in which the Earl of Gowrie seized King James VI at Stirling and was called to trial but had his summons deleted by the King's warrant.1
