     Sir Thomas Gresley was born circa 1562.2 He was the son of Sir William Gresley and Catherine Aston.3 He married, firstly, Catherine Walsingham.2 He married, secondly, Mary Southwell, daughter of Sir Richard Southwell.4 He died in September 1610.1
     He was appointed Knight on 20 April 1603.4

     Sir George Gresley, 1st Bt. was born circa 1580.2 He was the son of Sir Thomas Gresley and Catherine Walsingham.1,3 He married Susan Ferrers, daughter of Sir Humphrey Ferrers and Anne Bradbourne.3
     He held the office of High Sheriff of Derbyshire.3 He was created 1st Baronet Gresley, of Drakelow, co. Derby [England] on 29 June 1611.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newcastle-under-Lyme.3

     Sir Robert Stawell Ball was born on 1 July 1840.1 He was the son of Robert Ball and Amelia Gresley Hellicar.1 He married Frances Elizabeth Steele, daughter of William Edward Steele, on 5 August 1868.2 He died on 25 November 1913 at age 73.1
     He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He graduated with a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.)1 He was Lowndean Professor of Astronomy and Geometry at King's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Master of Arts (M.A.) by Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1 He held the office of Astronomer Royal [Ireland] between 1874 and 1892.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Astronomical Society (F.R.A.S.)1 He was appointed Knight in 1886.1 He was Director of the Cambridge Observatory between 1892 and 1913.1
