     Colonel John Francklyn King was born on 29 November 1882.1 He was the son of Colonel John Robert King and Kate Elizabeth Francklyn.1 He married Mary Elspeth Hellard, daughter of Edwin Hellard, on 7 January 1914.1
     He fought in the North-West Frontier in 1908, where he won a medal with clasp.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the RAIC.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918, where he served in Egypt and Flanders, and was mentioned in despatches and won three medals.1 He fought in the Gallipoli Campaign in April 1915.
