     Richard Barry was the son of James Fitz Richard Barry, 4th Viscount Barry and Ellen MacCarthy.1 He died on 24 April 1622 at Liscarroll, IrelandG, without issue.1
     On 10 April 1581 he should have become the 5th Viscount Barry and 18th Lord Barry, but he was passed over in the succession because he was deaf and dumb.1

David Barry, 5th Viscount Barry1

     David Barry, 5th Viscount Barry was born in 1550.2 He was the son of James Fitz Richard Barry, 4th Viscount Barry and Ellen MacCarthy.1 He married, secondly, Julia MacCarthy, daughter of Cormac MacCarthy.1 He married, firstly, Ellen Roche, daughter of David Roche, 5th Viscount Roche of Fermoy and Ellen Butler, before October 1593.1 He died on 10 April 1617 at Barry Court, County Cork, IrelandG.1
     He gained the title of Viscount Buttevant. He succeeded as the 18th Lord Barry [I., c. 1261] on 10 April 1581.1 He succeeded as the 5th Viscount Barry [I., 1541] on 10 April 1581.1 Before 1599 he joined Desmond's rebellion, but then abandoned the rebel cause.1 In 1602 he commanded 1,600 men.1 On 15 November 1602 he was pardoned.1 He held the office of Member of the Council of the province of Munster on 20 May 1615.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.2

     From before October 1593, her married name became Barry.1

     David Roche, 5th Viscount Roche of Fermoy was the son of Maurice Roche, 4th Viscount Roche of Fermoy and Grany MacCartie.2 He married Ellen Butler, daughter of James Butler, 10th Baron Dunboyne and Lady Joan Butler.1 He died between November 1581 and November 1582.2
     He succeeded as the 5th Viscount Roche of Fermoy [I., 1461].

     Julia MacCarthy is the daughter of Cormac MacCarthy.1 She married, firstly, David Barry, 5th Viscount Barry, son of James Fitz Richard Barry, 4th Viscount Barry and Ellen MacCarthy.1 She married, secondly, Sir Roger O'Shaughnessy after 1617.1
     Her married name became Barry.1 From after 1617, her married name became O'Shaughnessy.1
