     Major John Samuels was born in 1857 at Chorlton upon Medlock, Lancashire, England.2 He married Harriet Lillian Tarver in 1884 at Chorlton, Lancashire, England.2 He died in 1922 at Llanfairfechan, Caernarvonshire, Wales.2
     He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Garrison Artillery.1 He lived at Edenfield, Llanfairfechan, Denbighshire, WalesG.1 Burkes Peerage states he was awarded the Victoria Cross (V.C.) However, this award is not mentioned in Arthur's Symbol of Courage.1

     She fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918.1 She fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1945.1 She was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1946.1 She gained the rank of Major in the Women's Royal Auxiliary Corps (Territorial Army.)1

     Lt.-Col. Cecil George Wellesley was born on 30 September 1869.1 He was the son of Colonel William Henry Charles Wellesley and Jane Malet Hayden.2 He married Winifred Mary Parker, daughter of Hon. Reginald Parker and Katharine May Ames, on 1 November 1906.1 He died on 14 July 1932 at age 62.1
     He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1919.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 3rd Battalion, East Yorks Regiment.1

     Winifred Mary Parker was born on 19 November 1883.2 She was the daughter of Hon. Reginald Parker and Katharine May Ames.2,3 She married, firstly, Lt.-Col. Cecil George Wellesley, son of Colonel William Henry Charles Wellesley and Jane Malet Hayden, on 1 November 1906.1 She married, secondly, Lt.-Col. Clifford Charles Horace Twiss, son of Godfrey Twiss, on 24 October 1933.3 She died on 26 February 1959 at age 75.3
     From 1 November 1906, her married name became Wellesley. From 24 October 1933, her married name became Twiss.
