     Lady Gertrude Elizabeth Phipps was born on 30 April 1908. She is the daughter of Constantine Charles Henry Phipps, 3rd Marquess of Normanby and Gertrude Stansfeld Forster. She married Admiral Sir William Wellclose Davis, son of Walter Stewart Davis and Georgina Jessie C. Ross, on 28 April 1934.
      Lady Gertrude Elizabeth Phipps usually went by her middle name of Elizabeth.2 Her married name became Davis.

     Admiral Sir William Wellclose Davis was born on 11 October 1901 at Simla, Punjab, India.3 He was the son of Walter Stewart Davis and Georgina Jessie C. Ross.4 He married Lady Gertrude Elizabeth Phipps, daughter of Constantine Charles Henry Phipps, 3rd Marquess of Normanby and Gertrude Stansfeld Forster, on 28 April 1934. He died on 29 October 1987 at age 86 at Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England.3
     He was decorated with the award of the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.).1 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.).1

     Walter Stewart Davis was born on 23 August 1865.1 He was the son of William Davis.1 He married Georgina Jessie C. Ross on 5 September 1897 at Eton, Berkshire, England.1 He died on 5 January 1946 at age 80 at Longhope, Gloucestershire, England.1
     He was with the Indian Police between 1884 and 1888.1 He was with the Indian Political Service between 1888 and 1920.1 He lived at Coglan House, Longhope, Gloucestershire, England.
