     Maitland Gordon Rich was born on 22 June 1858.1 He was the son of William Gordon Rich and Maria Stewart Maitland.1 He married Mabel Montgomery Hutton, daughter of Captain W. F. Hutton, in 1888.1 He died in April 1919 at age 60.1

     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the King Edward's Horse.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918.1
