     George Tangye was born on 17 September 1835.1 He was the son of Joseph Tangye and Anne Bullock.1 He married Mary Catherine Weston, daughter of William Weston, on 15 October 1861.1 He died on 7 October 1920 at age 85.1
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Staffordshire.1 He and Sir Richard Tangye were co-founder of the Birmingham Art Gallery and Municipal School of Art.1
