     Reverend Octavius James was born on 25 June 1818 at Deckham Hall, Gateshead, County Durham, England.1,2 He was the son of William James and Elizabeth Woodhouse.1 He married Jane Catherine Helen Bowlby, daughter of Captain Thomas Bowlby and Williamina Martha Arnold Balfour, on 8 October 1844.1 He died on 9 January 1889 at age 70 at Clarghyll Hall, Alston, Cumberland, England, in a fire.1
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Northumberland.1 He graduated from St. John's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1841 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He graduated from St. John's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1843 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was Rector at Kirkhaugh, Northumberland, England.1 He lived at Clarghyll Hall, Alston, Cumberland, England.1
