     Major Allan Shafto Adair was born on 20 December 1836.1 He was the son of Alexander Adair and Harriet Eliza Atkinson.1 He married Georgiana Sarah Turnbull, daughter of John George Turnbull, on 5 January 1864.1 He died on 26 December 1902 at age 66.1
     He gained the rank of Major in the 13th Light Infantry.1 He fought in the Crimean War in 1856.1 He fought in the Indian Mutiny.1
