     Sir Richard Garth was born on 11 March 1820 at Morden, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Reverend Richard Garth and Mary Douglas.1 He married Clara Lowndes, daughter of William Loftus Lowndes, on 27 June 1847.1 He died on 23 March 1903 at age 83 at Cheniston Gardens, London, England.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He held the office of Chief Justice of Bengal between 1875 and 1886.1 He was invested as a Knight on 13 May 1875.1
