     Maitland Mackie was born on 21 September 1937 at Rothienorman, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of Sir Maitland Mackie and Isobel Ross.1 He married Dr. Halldis Aslaug Ramm, daughter of Halvor Lunde and Aslaug (?), in July 1961 at Fana Kirke, Bergen, Norway.2 He died on 31 May 2014 at age 76 at Rothienorman, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1
     He graduated from Aberdeen University, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)1 He graduated from Aberdeen University, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in 1971 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1991.1 He was chairman and owner of Mackie's of Scotland.1 He was Rector of Aberdeen University in 2011.1
