     He was educated at Downlands College, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.¹ He graduated from Queensland University, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, in 1948 with a Bachelor of Surgery (B.S.)¹ He graduated from Queensland University, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia^G, in 1948 with a Bachelor of Medicine (M.B.)¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal College of Surgeons of Australia (F.R.A.C.S.) in 1955.¹

     Clare McHugh is the daughter of J. H. McHugh.¹ She married Gavin James Douglas, son of Edward Archibald Douglas and Annette Eileen Power, in 1951.¹
     From 1951, her married name became Douglas.¹
