     He gained the rank of Ensign on 14 February 1851 in the 78th Highlanders.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 22 December 1854.1 He fought in the Indian Mutiny in 1857.1 He gained the rank of Captain on 10 September 1858 in the 21st Foot.1 He gained the rank of Captain on 4 November 1859 in the 78th Highlanders.1 He gained the rank of Brevet Major on 5 July 1872.1 He lived at Woodhay, Windlesham, Surrey, England.1 He retired from the military on 28 July 1873.1
