     Major Robert Francis Sydney Grant was born on 18 September 1878.1 He was the son of Sir Charles Grant and Elizabeth Ellen Baillie.1 He married Vera Campbell, daughter of Lt.-Col. Charles Walter Campbell, on 3 January 1917.1 He died on 4 August 1927 at age 48, without issue.1
     He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1900.1 He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1911.1 He fought in the First World War, he was mentioned in despatches twice and was severely wounded.1
