Hon. Catherine Macdonald-Buchanan was born in 1895. She is the daughter of James Buchanan, 1st and last Baron Woolavington and Anne Pounder.1,2 She married Major Sir Reginald Narcissus Macdonald-Buchanan, son of John Macdonald, on 18 January 1922.2

James Buchanan, 1st and last Baron Woolavington was born on 16 August 1849 at Brockville, Ontario, Canada.2 He was the son of Alexander Buchanan and Catherine McLean.2 He married Anne Pounder, daughter of Thomas Pounder, in 1892.3 He died on 9 August 1935 at age 85 at Lavington Park, Lavington, Sussex, England.3 He was buried on 13 August 1935 at Graffham Church, Petworth, Sussex, England.3
He was founder of James Buchanan and Company, whiskey distillers in 1880.3 He held the office of High Sheriff of Sussex in 1910.3 He was created 1st Baronet Buchanan, of Lavington, co. Sussex [U.K.] on 6 February 1920.3 He gained the title of 1st Baron Woolavington, of Lavington, co. Sussex [U.K.] on 24 January 1922.3 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1931.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.4
