     William John Cotton was born on 15 June 1908 at Stanley, Tasmania, Australia.¹ He was the son of Raymond Gordon Cotton and Eleanor Reid.¹ He married Leila Viviene Ferguson on 7 February 1935 at Irishtown, Tasmania, Australia.¹ He died on 2 March 1974 at age 65 at Edgecomb Beach, Tasmania, Australia.¹
