Sir Charles Kenneth Roylance Nunneley was born on 3 April 1936. He is the son of Robin Michael Charles Nunneley.2 He married Catherine Elizabeth Armstrong Buckley, daughter of Rt. Hon. Sir Denys Burton Buckley and Gwendolen Jane Armstrong-Jones, on 28 December 1961.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England. He was chairman of the National Trust between 1996 and 2003. He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 2003.
