Hugh Forbes Smith-Marriott was born on 10 October 1840.1 He was the son of Rev. Sir William Marriott Smith-Marriott, 4th Bt. and Julia Elizabeth Hodges.2 He married Frances Catherine Mary Cavendish, daughter of Vice-Admiral Hon. George John Cavendish and Caroline Prideaux-Brune, on 17 November 1864.1 He died on 14 August 1922 at age 81.1
