     He graduated from Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He was admitted to Inner Temple entitled to practise as a barrister.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Ryan, of Hintlesham, co. Suffolk [U.K., 1919] on 27 May 1937.¹

     Vivian Desmond Ryan was born on 7 September 1893.¹ He was the son of Sir Gerald Hemmington Ryan, 1st Bt. and Ellen Amelia Ellis.² He married, firstly, Kathleen Frances Helps, daughter of James William Helps, on 20 September 1917.¹ He married, secondly, Nanny Slater, daughter of Dixon Slater, on 11 April 1946.¹ He died on 25 February 1950 at age 56.¹
