     He fought in the Burma War between 1886 and 1887.¹ He fought in the China-Lushai Expedition between 1889 and 1890.¹ He was Deputy Inspector General of Indian Police.¹

     Edith Emily Brownlow was the daughter of H. H. Brownlow.² She married John Thurlow Rivett-Carnac, son of Charles Forbes Rivett-Carnac and Flora Elizabeth Baker, on 15 May 1887.¹ She died on 16 May 1950.¹
     From 15 May 1887, her married name became Rivett-Carnac.

     Lt.-Col. John Claude Thurlow Rivett-Carnac was born on 14 June 1888.¹ He was the son of John Thurlow Rivett-Carnac and Edith Emily Brownlow.² He married, firstly, Ola Jane Wilson, daughter of S. Wilson, in 1923.¹ He married, secondly, Hon. Evelyn Hope Balfour, daughter of Arthur Balfour, 1st Baron Riverdale and Frances Josephine Keighley Bingham, on 6 June 1953.¹ He died on 26 July 1975 at age 87 at Eastbourne, Sussex, England.³
     He was educated at Eastbourne College, Eastbourne, Sussex, England^G.¹ He was with the Indian Police.¹ He gained the rank of officer in the 35th Scinde Horse India and 13th Bengal Lancers Mesopotamia.¹ He fought in the First World War.¹ He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1918.¹ He was Chief Constable of Huntingdonshire between 1928 and 1957.¹ He was Chief Constable of Isle of Ely between 1931 and 1957.¹ He was awarded the King's Police Medal (K.P.M.)¹ He fought in the Second World War.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel between 1943 and 1945 in the Military Government.¹ He was Chief of Public Safety with Southern France with the U.S. 6th Army in 1944.¹
