     Maj.-Gen. William Havelock Chaplin Ramsden was born on 3 October 1888.1 He was the son of Reverend Henry Plumptre Ramsden and Ethel Frances Alice Havelock.2 He married, firstly, Christine Adelaide Baldwin, daughter of James Yescombe Baldwin, on 22 January 1918.1 He and Christine Adelaide Baldwin were divorced in 1946.1 He married, secondly, Eugenia Isabella Amy Whale-Ure, daughter of John Francis Whale-Ure, on 21 September 1946.1 He died on 16 December 1969 at age 81.1
     He was educated at Bath College, Bath, Somerset, EnglandG.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in the Hampshire Regiment.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1918.1 He served in the North-west Frontier Province between 1935 and 1937.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.1 He fought in 1939, he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1939.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1940.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1943.1 He was General Officer Commanding in Sudan and Eritrea between 1944 and 1945.1

     He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Artillery.1 He was with Shell.1
