He gained the rank of officer in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Captain in March 1747/48 in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Right-Admiral in 1778 in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He was Commander of the Leeward Islands station in 1779.1 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1780 in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Commander-in-Chief on 5 August 1781 in the service of the British fleet at the drawn Battle of Dogger Bank against the Dutch.1 He gained the rank of Commander-in-Chief in 1782 at East Indies.1 He succeeded to the title of 5th Baronet Parker, of Melford Hall, co. Suffolk [E., 1681] on 10 July 1782.1 On 12 December 1782 he was seen leaving Rio de Janeiro aboard his new 60-gun flagship the Cato hence presumed drowned or possibly murdered by natives on the Malahar Coast, where he is thought to have been shipwrecked.1
