Sir John Auld Mactaggart, 1st Bt. was born on 30 September 1867.1 He was the son of Neil Mactaggart and Anne Auld.2 He married, firstly, Margaret Lockhart Curtis, daughter of Robert Curtis, on 10 September 1897.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Anna Orr, daughter of Reverend David Orr, on 27 January 1928.1 He died on 24 November 1956 at age 89.1
He was a housing expert.1 He was member of the National Government in 1931.1 He was treasurer of the first Labour branch under Keir Hardie.1 He was created 1st Baronet Mactaggart, of King's Park, City of Glasgow [U.K.] on 2 February 1938.1 He was Chairman of Western Heritable Investment Company, of Glasgow and London.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1
