     He was educated at Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹ He was educated at The Priory, Croydon, London, England.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in the 6th Royal Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers.)¹ He gained the rank of Captain War 1870 in the 9th Argyll Artillery Volunteers.¹ He was a military correspondent of The Times throughout the Franco-Prussian War between 1870 and 1871.¹ He was awarded the Iron Cross in 1871 by the Kaiser.¹ In 1871 founded the Argyll Gathering and Ball.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Argyllshire.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Argyllshire.¹

     Anthony Vincent Maclaine was born on 3 November 1846.¹ He was the son of Donald Maclaine, 22nd of Lochbuie and Emilie Guillaumine Vincent.² He married Sarah Parry Midmore.¹ He died on 10 January 1887 at age 40.¹

     Sarah Parry Midmore married Anthony Vincent Maclaine, son of Donald Maclaine, 22nd of Lochbuie and Emilie Guillaumine Vincent.¹
     She lived at Eastbourne, Sussex, England.¹ Her married name became Maclaine.
