John Maclaine, 17th of Lochbuie was the son of Allan Maclaine and Julia Maclean.2 He married Isabel Maclean, daughter of Lt.-Col. Sir Donald Maclean, 3rd of Brolas, 6th Bt..3 He died on 4 February 1778, with a natural s (Gillean Maclaine, WS, of Edinburgh, later of Scallastle House, Mull, b 1724, d 4 Feb 1788, with other issue, a bastard s by Janet MacPhail (later married John/Iain Buchanan of Fellonmore ancestor of the BUCHANANs OF FELLONMORE.3
