William St. John Somerville McAlester of Loup and Kennox was born on 16 January 1958.1 He is the son of Colonel Charles Godfrey Somerville McAlester of Loup and Kennox and Pamela May Hodson.2 He married Carol Anne Facer in 1990.1 He and Carol Anne Facer were divorced in 1999.1
He was educated at Shiplake College, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of officer between 1978 and 1996 in the Royal Marines.1 He fought in the Falklands War in 1982.1 He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court on 12 November 1991.1 He was in the boat-building industry in 1996.1 He lived in 2003 at 14 Burnham Road, Burton, Christchurch, Dorset, EnglandG.1
