     Frederick James Leathers, 1st Viscount Leathers was born on 21 November 1883 at Stepney, London, England.1,2 He was the son of Robert Leathers and Emily Jane Seaman.3 He married Emily Ethel Baxter, daughter of Henry Baxter, on 1 June 1907.1 He died on 19 March 1965 at age 81.1
     He was advisor to the Minister of Shipping on coal in 1940.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1941.1 He was advisor to Minister of War, Transport between 1941 and August 1945.1 He was created 1st Baron Leathers, of Purfleet, co. Essex [U.K.] on 19 May 1941.1 He was UK representative to the Combined Shipping Adjustment Board between 1942 and 1945.1 He was appointed Companion of Honour (C.H.) in 1943.1 He held the office of Secretary of State, Co-ordination Transport, Fuel and Power in October 1951.1 He was created 1st Viscount Leathers, of Purfleet, co. Essex [U.K.] on 18 January 1954.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Birmingham University, Birmingham, Warwickshire, EnglandG.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Leeds University, Leeds, Yorkshire, England.1

     Emily Ethel Baxter was born in 1882 at Stepney, London, England.2 She was the daughter of Henry Baxter.3 She married Frederick James Leathers, 1st Viscount Leathers, son of Robert Leathers and Emily Jane Seaman, on 1 June 1907.1 She died on 30 December 1971.1
     From 1 June 1907, her married name became Leathers. After her marriage, Emily Ethel Baxter was styled as Baroness Leathers on 19 May 1941. After her marriage, Emily Ethel Baxter was styled as Viscountess Leathers on 18 January 1954.

     Frederick Alan Leathers, 2nd Viscount Leathers was born on 4 April 1908 at Goodmayes, Ilford, Essex, England.1,2 He was the son of Frederick James Leathers, 1st Viscount Leathers and Emily Ethel Baxter.3 He married, firstly, Elspeth Graeme Stewart, daughter of Sir Thomas Alexander Stewart, on 22 June 1940.1 He and Elspeth Graeme Stewart were divorced in 1983.1 He married, secondly, Lorna M. Marshall, daughter of A. K. Marshall, on 6 April 1983.1 He died on 21 January 1996 at age 87.1
     He was educated at Brighton College, Brighton, Sussex, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Emmanuel College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1929 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was director of Wm Cory and Son Ltd between 1929 and 1972.1 He graduated from Emmanuel College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1931 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Leathers, of Purfleet, co.
