     Hon. Edwin Berkeley Portman was born on 3 August 1830 at Bryanston, Dorset, England.¹ He was the son of Edward Berkley Portman, 1st Viscount Portman of Bryanston and Lady Emma Lascelles.¹ He married Caroline Ella Chapman, daughter of David Ward Chapman, on 14 May 1887.² He died on 27 April 1921 at age 90.¹
